Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at admin@thestairwell.ca if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Michelle and Natalie are Registered Social Workers and Psychotherapists. Most extended healthcare plans provide coverage for services provided under these professions. Please check with your plan prior to booking. You will be provided with a receipt to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.

Therapy can help with a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, grief, stress, self-esteem, life transitions, substance use, and more. Whether you're seeking specific support for a mental health concern or wanting to explore personal growth, therapy offers a supportive space for exploration and healing.

Your first session is a chance to get to know one another. We will talk about what brings you to therapy, what your goals are, and any background information that can be helpful to guide treatment. It's also an opportunity to ask questions and see if you feel comfortable working together.

Each session is booked for a "therapeutic hour". This ranges from 50-60 minutes so that we end in a natural break in the session. The last five minutes are typically reserved for booking and review of any next steps discussed along with charting.

The initial 60-minute intake appointment is $190. Regular psychotherapy sessions are $175/50 minute session. Group session fees are based on specific offerings and will be posted when spaces are available. Extended sessions can be provided upon special request.

In Ontario there is no legal age of consent for psychotherapy services. Professional judgement is used to ensure that the child has an understanding of the risks and benefits of engaging in (or not engaging in) treatment. Typically after age twelve, children are able to make informed decisions about their treatment. Michelle is a firm believer in including parents and caregivers in the therapeutic process as much as possible. That being said, there are times when a young person may request that information not be shared with the adults in their lives, which they most often have the capacity to request.  Limits of confidentiality are always discussed, and there are times when Michelle will be notifying caregivers etc. due to concerns around safety. Please connect with any additional questions.
